چکیده

Development of resistance to chlorpyrifos in Culex pipiens population from Tunisia under temephos selection pressures was investigated. The objective of this study was to follow the evolution of resistance responses in Culex pipiens larvae under laboratory conditions. The selection to temephos caused a significant increase of resistance to chlorpyrifos levels. Indeed, the LD50 resistance rate increased from 75.90 in the natural population to approximately 6620.66 in the 4th generation of selection. This resistance dropped sharply in the 5th generation (1686.35) to increase again in the last generation of selection reaching 3929.36. The reason for this unstable variation is unknown and effects related to uncontrolled environmental parameters and/or inter-strain genetic variability is probably involved. Our results showed the involvement of insensitive acetylcholinesterase (AChE), which is a common target for temephos and chlorpyrifos insecticides, in the recorded resistance. The potential to develop resistance to the chlorpyrifos is very clear in this species. To cite this article [Tabbabi, A., Lamari, A., & Ben Cheikh, H. (2017). Distribution of organophosphate and carbamate resistance in Culex pipiens quinquefasciatus (Diptera: Culicidae) in West Africa.

The distribution of organophosphate and carbamate resistance was investigated in 33 samples of Culex pipiens quinquefasciatus Say from 25 cities in Côte d'Ivoire and Burkina Faso. Organophosphate resistance levels were higher in Côte d'Ivoire than in Burkina Faso. Chlorpyrifos resistance ratios at LC95 ranged from 4 to 30 times in Côte d'Ivoire and from 3 to 6 times in Burkina Faso. For temepho...

Recent emergence of insensitive acetylcholinesterase in Chinese populations of the mosquito Culex pipiens (Diptera: Culicidae).

Organophosphate/carbamate target resistance has emerged in Culex pipiens L. (Diptera: Culicidae), the vector of Wuchereria bancrofti and West Nile virus (family Flaviviridae, genus Flavivirus) in China. The insensitive acetylcholinesterase was detected in only one of 20 samples collected on a north-to-south transect. According to previous findings, a unique mutation, G119S in the ace-1 gene, ex...

Species Diversity and Larval Habitat Characteristics of Mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae) in Golestan Province, 2016

Background & Objectives: Mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae) are medically considered as one of the most important species of insects in terms of disease transmission to human beings; hence, they can be vectors of remarkable diseases such as malaria, West Nile, dengue fever, yellow fever, and filariasis. This study aimed to determine the species diversity and larval habitat characteristics of mosqu...

Patterns of insecticide resistance in larval Culex pipiens populations in Israel: dynamics and trends.

Resistance to insecticides of larval Culex pipiens populations in Israel has been monitored for ten years and the results were used for control planning. The insecticides tested were the organophosphates chlorpyrifos, fenthion, and temephos and the pyrethroids permethrin and cypermethrin. Over the years the relative resistance (R/R) values to chlorpyrifos in most populations tested were between...
